Scholarships
The Class of 2020 has missed out on a lot of milestones because of the current health pandemic. The way we that have celebrated achievements in the past, as a club, has certainly changed. This year, instead of coming together a “drive by” became a norm. However, that doesn’t make those achievements any less amazing or remarkable. This year we have awarded Matching Scholarships to two great young people. J.L. graduated from Robert Thirsk High School in Calgary where she received Excellence awards through grade 10 -12. She was an exemplary student citizen, and volunteered in many different areas of her school life. Outside of school, her volunteer experiences enabled her to participate in children’s ministries at home. As well, she has traveled overseas to work with children in orphanages. Congratulations to J.T as she pursues her studies in Education at the University of Calgary. N.C. believes in the spirit of volunteering and giving back to the world around her. She was a crucial part of Key Club at Robert Thirsk High School; she took on various leadership roles and continued to serve her community during the early days of the pandemic. Her caring and positive attitude helps her to recognize needs in the community around her. She demonstrates passion and a will to bring about change. Congratulations to N.C. as she pursues a Bachelor of Science at the University of Victoria. This year we also have awarded Bursaries to two great young people. J.K. has been described as a learner, leader and an amazing citizen in many aspects of her school life. She graduated from Robert Thirsk High School with a strong commitment to academics. She also strives to understand the world around her: she becomes creative & innovative to ensure the people around her are supported. J.K. showed leadership skills both in her classes and Key Club. Congratulations to J.K. who will be attending McGill University, Software Engineering Program J.B. graduated form Robert Thirsk High School where he was known as enthusiastic, thoughtful and motivated. He has shown a sincere desire for learning to improve himself, as well as to improve the world around him. J.B’s involvement in Key Club taught him that volunteering not only makes a difference in one’s community, but it also adds meaning on a personal level. Congratulations J.B. who will be attending the University of Victoria. |
