Club Officers and Directors 2024-25
A member of Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook since 2017, Sue is a born and raised Calgarian. She graduated from Western Canada High School and has a diploma in Child and Youth Studies from Mount Royal College. She is married with 4 children (adult) and 6 grandchildren (3 girls & 3 boy). Her husband and her were Foster Parents for about 15 years, working mainly with teenage girls.
She is a registered Social Worker and has been in the field for 30 years. "Becoming a Kiwanian was a natural thing for me to do". Over her career, the agency she was fortunate enough to work at had a connection with the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook. "The families we worked with were very fortunate to have the Kiwanis host our Christmas and Easter celebrations. I have many fond memories of those parties." "I became a Kiwanian because I believe in what they do for children in our city. I enjoy the fellowship of the members in the club and look forward to the next year and all the great things we will do for children and their families." Darlene has been a member of the Kiwanis family since 1985 when she first joined the Kiwanian club. She then joined the Kiwanis Club of Calgary South and East (now the Kiwanis Club of Calgary Chinook) in 1988. The highest office she has held is Lt. Gov. for Div. 7 of Western Canada District in 1995. Currently, she is the Coordinator of the club’s Bike Program.
"Kiwanis is an important part of my life!" Joanne has been a proud Kiwanian since 2010, when she retired from her career as a high school English teacher. "I knew of the great work Kiwanis does for Calgary kids through my sister, Darlene, a long-time Kiwanian, and wanted to be part of that." She is especially passionate about promoting children’s early literacy as she often saw the long-term effects of that by high school.
She is also delighted to work as an advisor to our Key Club at Robert Thirsk High School. The energy and commitment of those teens to making a difference always amazes her. "It is an honor to encourage these young leaders." When not volunteering with Kiwanis, you’ll find her reading, walking the dog, gardening or doing Tai Chi. Dennis has been a member of the Kiwanis Calgary Chinook Club since January 2014. Prior to becoming a member he participated in building a playground and a helmet giveaway. Participation in these two events led him to join the club after retiring from a career as a Chartered Accountant
in public practice. Upon joining he became actively involved in the bike program and most club projects. He soon also became involved in fundraising. Dennis served as President of the Club from October 1, 2016 to September 30, 2018 and became Treasurer effective October 1, 2021. His hobbies are traveling, golfing and spending time with my 4 grandchildren. Don has been a member of the Kiwanis Calgary Chinook Club since August 30, 1994.
Cecil has been a member of the Kiwanis since 1998, and part of Kiwanis Calgary Chinook Club since 2012.
Herman has been a Kiwanis member since 2018 but an active club volunteer since 2001. Now that he is retired, he spends winters in Arizona and the summers helping with the Bike Program. He feels that what the club does for children is invaluable. He joined Kiwanis because he feels "it is a worthwhile charity that does wonderful things for children".
